The Castille
Elias, the narrator, has just learned that his grandmother has passed away. On her answering machine, Beatrice leaves the following message:“She is dead, she committed suicide, the firemen found her. “
The young man leaves Paris, via the Montparnasse train station, in the direction of Poitiers, his childhood town. He knows that the days ahead are likely to be difficult. Especially since in the Jewish tradition, the whole family stays seven days to watch over the body of the deceased. Seven days together, tightly packed and with emotions running high.
When he got off the train, Elias remembered Poitiers, especially the Castille cinema. This small CGR / Arts et essais complex is nestled in a beautiful building. This is the beginning of his mourning.
The Castille cinema was first redeveloped in 1948
24 Pl. du Maréchal-Leclerc
At 24 place du Maréchal-Leclerc stands the beautiful building housing the Castille cinema.
Today, the Castille cinema is jointly managed by the CGR group and the TAP (Poitiers’ national stage). It shows mainstream films as well as feature and medium-length art house films.
The Martineau brothers renovated the building in 1948. The coat of arms of Poitiers and Poitou can still be seen on the pediment.
