Stevie Wonder was born on January 11, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan. He then lives in a house called The Big House. Today, the building no longer exists but the site is marked with a large rock to remind visitors that this is where the Motown prodigy spent part of his childhood. A monument belatedly erected in 2005 in front of the former Juneteenth Creative Cultural Center and Museum. And even if the district, in spite of its importance in the history of contemporary music, has largely lost its superbness, the fans do not hesitate to come to pay their tribute to the star.
In 1980, Hotter than July went platinum. An album on which appears Happy Birthday that the artist composed with Martin Luther King Jr. in mind. More committed than it seems, festive but concerned, the title encouraged President Ronald Reagan to make the famous pastor’s birthday a national holiday. And while the song didn’t make a commercial splash in the U.S., it was a triumph in Britain. A Happy Birthday that Stevie Wonder interpreted on the stage of the Radio City Music Hall, on July 19th 2009, in the presence of Nelson Mandela.

Stevie Wonder Landmark
Erected in 2005 in the musician’s hometown of Saginaw, the Stevie Wonder Monument has been receiving attention for several years, after having long been neglected.
Located in front of the Juneteenth Creative Cultural Center and Museum, an institution dedicated to telling the story of Saginaw County’s African-American population, the monument to Stevie Wonder has been suffering the ravages of time since the center closed its doors. A monument consisting of a large rock with a plaque on it, set on a massive base with the names of several deceased people. A fundraiser was even organized to finance the cleaning of the monument.
