Statue of Liberty

Saga Ghostbusters
Movie Ghostbusters II Ivan Reitman (1989)
Don't have to introduce her. The Statue of Liberty has a decisive role in the second film and leaves its pedestal on Liberty Island to lend a hand to ghost hunters.

“- Kinda makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

– Wonder what?

– Whether she’s naked under that toga. She is French. You know that.”

Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson)

Ghostbusters don’t know what to do anymore, they’re deadlocked. They are looking for a way to give people hope.

For this they look for a symbol. That appeals to the best in each of them. Something good, something decent, something pure: The Statue of Liberty.

Very quickly, they cover the inside with slime. While slimming the statue, Ray (Dan Aykroyd) pronounces“Beautiful”, a cigar between his teeth. This is a reference to the famous Hannibal Smith in The A-Team.

They then turn on the speakers to pass Howard Huntsberry’s Higher and Higher to activate and move it with a NES Advantage joystick. Very quickly, she is greeted by the crowd as it should be and sets out for her destiny.

Needless to say, it’s just cinema! The venerable lady has been firmly established in New York Harbor since 1886 and still attracts a large number of filmmakers and tourists.

Statue of Liberty National Monument

One of the most famous monuments in the world, the work of Frenchman Auguste Bartholdi is not only the emblem of New York, but also and above all that of freedom, a value so dear to Americans. A powerful symbol, strong images: destruction, protective allegory, a happy ending, hope… The Statue of Liberty has inspired creators and its radiance does not seem to be about to fade away.

Offered by France in 1886 to mark the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence, the Statue of Liberty has long been America’s first vision for millions of migrants.

Their boats sailed along Liberty Island, on which the 93-meter-high monument stands, before their passage to immigration on Ellis Island. Named Liberty Enlightening the World, the statue looks toward Europe and the date of the proclamation of independence, July 4, 1776, is engraved on its tablet.

The broken chains at its feet are a metaphor for freedom. To visit it, you must take the boat from Battery Park in southern Manhattan or Liberty State Park in New Jersey and it is recommended to buy tickets in advance.

The crossing costs $18.50. Add $18.50 to reach the pedestal where a museum is located and $21.50 to climb 354 steps to its crown.
