South Boston Avenue quickly becomes the nerve center of the adventures of Dwight Manfredi, the mobster played by Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King. Even the first promotional photos of the series showed the actor standing proudly on this street.
The King of Oklahoma
If the series is supposed to take place in Tulsa, its shooting was mostly concentrated in Oklahoma City. The teams of the showrunner Taylor Shedira nevertheless insisted on making the illusion credible by using iconic places of Tulsa. South Boston Avenue is one of those places that is immediately recognizable, as is the Mayo Hotel, where Dwight Manfredi moved quickly after his arrival in town.
Tulsa or almost
The fact that the series repeatedly tries to pass off Oklahoma City as Tulsa encouraged one of the producers, Terence Winter, to explain himself to the Tulsa World website: “A lot of our work took place on the stage. For example, Dwight’s hotel room was built on a sound stage and various other sets that we needed. It made a big difference in terms of our schedule, so as much as we would have liked to have shot the entire thing in Tulsa, Oklahoma City just ended up making more sense at the end of the day. I’m sure people in Tulsa are going to be looking at locations and saying, ‘Wait a minute! That’s not Tulsa.’ Apologies in advance.“
It took Taylor Sheridan only one week to lay the foundation for Tulsa King.
South Boston Avenue
This avenue is one of the main ones in the city of Tulsa in the state of Oklahoma. It partly crosses the city from north to south.
South Boston Avenue begins in the Downtown district of Tulsa, in the city center, before ending at Gathering Place, a park frequented by tourists and locals alike. It roughly follows the course of the nearby Arkansas River and crosses Highway 64.
