Simmons Hall is a very important place in the lives of MIT students. Nothing more logical than to find him in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), the future Iron Heart, makes her first appearance. A superheroine in the making whose room is located in this architecturally daring building.
A student like no other
Ryan Coogler may have set up the production headquarters for Black Panther 2 in Atlanta, but he made a move to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus, operating Simmons Hall. A way to give his film a certain realism, before returning to Wakanda, the fictional universe of Black Panther, for its part largely shaped in the studio through digital effects.

Iron Heart is coming !
New star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Riri Williams, the future Iron Heart, represented an unprecedented opportunity for her interpreter Dominique Thorne. The actress had already applied for a role in the first Black Panther, as she explained to Teen Vogue: “I remember searching at the time for exactly where Wakanda was. What real country is it based on? I had heard that he was inspired by countries in Southern and East Africa. I also had some friends who were from Rwanda and Kenya. So I asked them if they didn’t mind if I listened to them talk. It opened my ears in a way. In the context of my hearings for Black PantherI had to record tapes and I was inspired by all that. I was then called to Los Angeles and then to Atlanta. We were only 3 or 4 in the running for the role of Shuri. Of course, Letita Wright was there.“If she was finally not retained, the casting directors have not forgotten her for all that.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had the best opening of 2022 when it was released in French theaters.
Simmons Hall
A building with bold and contemporary architecture, Simmons Hall is an obligatory place for all students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Built in concrete, the Simmons Hall houses student rooms but also lounges, play areas, relaxation areas and theaters, cinemas and fitness rooms. A gigantic ball pool is also available to students. It has served as a residence for 340 students since its inauguration in 2002. It was designed by architect Steven Holl. Its unique design has won it numerous awards.
