Shot entirely in the Calgary area, The Last of Us series used all sorts of locations to recreate various environments, supposedly in different parts of the United States. Thus, Mount Royal University in Calgary served as the University of Colorado’s science building in the scenario.
A faculty in chaos
The decorating team takes over several rooms within Mount Royal University. Numerous scientific devices are installed and everything is globally done to recreate a devastated environment. Monkeys are even invited to the party to complete the picture. Laboratory monkeys having taken control of the place since the departure of the scientists.
An entire city put to work
Rarely in the history of television has a city been used as much as Calgary with The Last of Us. Locating the vast majority of the sets in Alberta required a great deal of work, although of course the locals recognized their buildings. Mount Royal University students, faculty and staff felt a great sense of pride as Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey passed through.
Rumor has it that the word zombie was banned on the set of The Last of Us.
Mount Royal University
Founded in 1910, this university took the place of a primary and secondary school in 1931.
Mount Royal University is home to over 12,000 students. Its campus can accommodate a thousand all year round. Famous for its sports teams, the Cougars, this renowned faculty has seen some students who have become famous such as the wrestler Bret Hart, the singer Leslie Fiest, the former Premier of Alberta Ralph Klein, the composer Dave Pierce or the pianist Yuja Wang.
