Scenic route

Movie The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent Tom Gormican (2022)
As Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Cage) has just told his host Javi (Pedro Pascal) of his desire to quit filmmaking, the two men take a drive in a beautiful vintage car on the scenic road. A scene shot on the shore of the Adriatic, a few miles from Dubrovnik.

“I’m that fucking Nicolaaaaaaaaaaaaas, wow! Cage!”

The choice of Croatia has become an obvious one for many film studios. Offering advantageous shooting conditions and much lower prices than in Hollywood, the country also offers amazing landscapes. So it was a few years after the capital was transformed into a Lannister stronghold in Game of Thrones that Tom Gormican, Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal wrapped most of the footage of their meta action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent in and around the city.

The scenic road to Cavtat, known worldwide for its beautiful scenery, sees on screen the characters of Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal getting closer. Discovering common points, they prepare to become the best friends of the world, against not really favorable circumstances.

If this is the first time that Nicolas Cage plays himself in a film, others before him have preceded him, without however always pushing the concept so far. Actors like Bruce Willis and Julia Roberts in Ocean’s Twelve, Sean Penn in the series Two and a Half Men, Jean-Claude Van Damme in Friends, Bill Murray in Welcome to Zombieland, Arnold Schwarzenegger in Last Action Hero or Bruce Campbell in the horror comedy My Name is Bruce.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is the third film in which Nicolas Cage plays several roles after Face/Off and Adaptation.

This scenic route allows you to grasp all the grandiose character of the region of the small village of Cavtat, in the agglomeration of Dubrovnik.

Founded by the Greek people, Cavtat was later conquered by the Romans in 228 BC. Having benefited from the explosion of tourism on the Croatian coast, the town is also known for its architecture and shines internationally thanks to its monuments dating from the Republic of Ragusa. Constructions for the most part in Renaissance and Gothic style such as the Captain’s palace, the fortified enclosure, and the churches of Saint-Nicolas and Notre-Dame-de-Cavtat.
