The priest Fromenger (Jean-Luc Bideau) prepares himself in the sacristy of the Capuchin seminary before all the ceremonies. It is in this room that all the objects of worship are kept. The church of Saint-Sauveur in La Rochelle serves as the sacristy in Ainsi soient-ils.
For the launch of the series, Arte is going all out with an impressive promotional campaign. Posters in the metro, on buses and numerous advertisements in major newspapers. For season 2, the channel even decided to finance one in the religious daily La Croix. They even created a fake seminary website making fun of the Catholic Church.
Ainsi soient-ils brings together an average of 950,000 viewers for each episode.
Saint Saviour Church of La Rochelle
The Saint Saviour church is a Louis XIII style church located in the city of La Rochelle in the Charente-Maritime department.
Built in 1152 by the monks of the island of Aix, the church of Saint Saviour was rebuilt and renovated several times.
It has had a gallery organ since 1538. The organ visible today was built in 1774.
In 1892, the city of La Rochelle restored the sacristy by constructing a brand new building that includes a tower. Its interior is built in a neo-gothic style.
