Rusty bridge
The Last of Us production has set up its base camp in Calgary. Taking advantage of the wide variety of landscapes in the region, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann recreate Boston and the surrounding countryside, where the action takes place. In the third episode of season 1, Joel and Ellie, the characters played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, are in a lush countryside. A setting that the designers fashioned from Fish Creek Provincial Park near Calgary.
Deadly mushrooms
The rusty bridge that the characters cross really exists and is therefore in the park in question. Of course, the building has been largely made up to look older than it really is. A bridge that was the source of some minor taunts from some viewers familiar with Fish Creek or the Boston area. Stephen King in particular, the master of horror himself, posted a tweet following the airing of the episode, “Do you really want to tell me that’s 10 miles west of Boston?“. Indeed, there is no such park or forest on the Boston side.
Contagious success
Located more exactly at 80 km from Sheep River Falls, the bridge is particularly photogenic. A bridge adjoining the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area, also located in the Calgary area, in the series. An ideal green space to promote the birth of anxiety.
The soundtrack of the series was entrusted to the composer already working on the video games, namely Gustavo Santaolalla.
Fish Creek Provincial Park
Fish Creek Provincial Park is one of the largest city parks in all of North America.
This vast park takes its name from the Fish Creek River. This runs the entire length of the park. Walkers can enjoy more than 100 km of hiking trails, 60 km of which are paved. Ideal for cycling and many other sports, it is also home to Lake Sikome. Several animal species flourish there, such as deer, coyotes, owls or beavers.
