Rick Grimes' house

“It tells me God’s got a strange sense of humor.”
Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln)
Zombie-infested Georgia
Adapted by Frank Darabont, the filmmaker responsible for The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, The Walking Dead is based on the comic book of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. A twilight and brutal work, immersed in an apocalyptic world populated by nightmarish creatures, which takes place in Kings County, Georgia.
It is also in the Atlanta area that Frank Darabont decides to set the production of the series. A practical choice above all, as the city has been offering for some years now more than advantageous conditions to studios wishing to reduce costs, compared to cities like New York and Los Angeles.

Rick Grimes’ house
While the Grimes family home is only brought into the pilot, it is still very important.
During the scouting, Frank Darabont’s team found a house available for sale in downtown Atlanta, in the heart of a quiet neighborhood. In the script, the Grimes’ home is in a small suburban town.
Free to dispose of the house as they see fit, the decorators invest it and do what is necessary to translate the devastation that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) witnesses on the screen when he leaves the hospital.
It is also not far from there that the scene in which the future hero of the survivors meets a little zombie girl is shot. Afterwards, the ex-policeman decides to go to downtown Atlanta in search of other lost souls, in the hope of finding his wife and little boy. And it is on horseback that he goes to the city then in the grip of chaos.
The Walking Dead has given birth to two spin-off series: Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
817 Cherokee Ave SE
On the edge of Grant Park in downtown Atlanta, near the zoo, this seemingly innocuous house may cause some chills.
Estimated at $835,000, this 200-square-foot American-style home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Equipped with a lovely porch, it also has a large garden and a driveway leading to the road. Last sold in 2020, it is currently occupied. The neighborhood of which it is a part, Summerhill, is one of the oldest in the city. Founded in 1865, it consists of 26 neighborhoods. It was the site of the opening and closing ceremonies of the track and field events during the 1996 Summer Olympics and was also the birthplace of boxing champion Evander Holyfield.
