Gauthier Valence finds his friend, great actor, Serge Tanneur (Fabrice Luchini). After having exchanged on the Misanthrope, the two friends go to the restaurant Aux Frères de la Côte, in Ars-en-Ré, to share a meal.
While they are eating shrimp with a view of the ocean, Gauthier notices the presence of a woman (Maya Sansa). He asks Serge if he knows her. The latter nods and says that she is an Italian woman who is not very sociable. Gauthier will also take the opportunity to explain his coming to the island.
During the shooting, director Philippe Le Guay let his actors improvise: “The subject of the film is the freedom of the actor, so it would have been absurd to forbid them to improvise. Fabrice and Lambert launched into parodies on how to say alexandrines!”
Fabrice Luchini plays a character from Molière for the second time. In 2007, he had already played Monsieur Jourdain in the film Molière by Ariane Mnouchkine.
