Red Rock Canyon

Movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Terry Gilliam (1998)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas remains one of the public's favorite films directed by Terry Gilliam. A delirious road trip carried by the prose of the pope of gonzo, Hunter S. Thompson, under a blazing sun with the backdrop of Sin City and its desert surroundings.

“Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart.”

Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp)

Fully committed to the project

Quite willing to see his writings brought to the screen, the author agrees to welcome Johnny Depp to play Raoul Duke, the alter ego of Hunter S. Thompson. The actor then moved into the basement of the writer’s house and studied the original manuscript of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for four months, along with numerous notes and other observations.

Essentially made up of anecdotes that really happened, the book never ceases to impress Johnny Depp. The latter also drives the Chevrolet Caprice of Hunter S. Thompson, borrows his clothes and gradually blends into the character. He even shaved his own head to reproduce the baldness of his “new friend”. Benicio del Toro, on the other hand, gained 44 pounds in nine weeks.

Located about twenty kilometers from Las Vegas, this natural park is an integral part of the Mojave Desert.

Red Rock Canyon is popular for its many red-colored sandstone formations, the tallest of which is 1000 meters high. The site is home to several petroglyphs carved millions of years ago by Native American peoples. One of the most visited places in Nevada, Red Rock Canyon is also a reserve for a hundred species of birds such as the greater roadrunner or the golden eagle.
