Poitiers courthouse
Accused of the murder of twelve people by poisoning, the Marie Besnard case is very quickly publicized. Nicknamed the poisoner of Loudun, the case interested the whole of France for a decade.
In 1985, five years after the death of Marie Besnard, Charles Brabant called upon the director Yves-André Hubert to shoot a fictional film for TF1 on the case.
L’affaire Marie Besnard was filmed on the real scene of the case in Loudun. The trial scene was filmed in the old Poitiers courthouse, the actual place where the hearings took place.
The TV movie will be a real success. At the 7 d’or ceremony, he won 3 prizes, including the best TV movie for Yves-André Hubert, the best actress for Alice Sapritch who plays the role of Marie Besnard, and the best author for Frédéric Pottecher.
A new TV movie on TF1 was made in 2006 with Muriel Robin in the main role. However, the latter was not shot at all in Loudun.
