Point Mugu Beach
Who said that punk music is devoid of love? Not the Blink-182 trio, that’s for sure. Wanting to write a song about his future fiancée, Tom DeLonge writes All the Small Things, describing all the little things he loves about his sweetheart. On a very rhythmic sound, the chorus having been ranked 16th among the 50 most explosive by New Musical Express in 2014, Tom, accompanied by his companions Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, thus declares his flame.

When the time comes to illustrate the song, the trio calls on Marcos Siega, whom they will meet again regularly and notably for What’s My Age Again?. For the occasion, the director makes the combo shoot in an airport hangar and on the beach of Point Mugu. Completed in just two days, the video includes images of the band totally naked, hysterical fans and Mark Hoppus’ dog, Oliver, playing with his master. The friends take the codes of the clips of boys band in vogue, notably those of the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC or 98 Degrees.
Love, Love, Love
But if the song allowed Tom DeLonge to express his love, it also caused a romance. Tom DeLonge regularly likes to tease his buddy Mark by asking every woman they meet if she will go out with him. During the rehearsals of the clip, the artistic director of MTV, Skye Everly, is the target of the singer. “He asked Skye [Everly], who looked at me and said, ‘No.’ That’s how it all started.” recalled Mark Hoppus, who married the young woman on December 2, 2000, thanks to this chance meeting. The story doesn’t say if they ended up alone on the sand with their eyes in the water.
The video also parodies Britney Spears’ Sometimes and Christina Aguilera’s Genie in a Bottle.
Point Mugu Beach
Point Mugu Beach is an integral part of Point Mugu State Park, a park of over 15,000 acres near Los Angeles.
Of the park’s three beaches, Point Mugu Beach is the smallest. Located in a triangle about 500 meters long, the beach owes part of its fame to Point Mugu Rock. This huge rock appears in many movies and television commercials.
The beach is also infamous for the crash of Alaska Airlines flight 261 on 31 January 2000 and for being the target of murderous rogue waves.
