Pallet Town
For many Pokémon fans, the Pallet Town is like a second home. This is where the first adventures of Ash, the trainer’s apprentice, take place in the series. This is also the starting point for Red, whose alias is completely changeable, in the early versions of the Pokémon video games. Of course, later on, the other titles will follow the same pattern and origin.
The Pallet Town far from being a dumpling
Satoshi Tajiri, the brilliant creator of the Pokémon universe, did not choose this city by chance. He himself was born in 1965 in Machida, near Tokyo, Japan. This small town was in its time a quiet rural area. The young man had a passion for the study of insects. Later, he discovered arcade games and spent a lot of time in the ubiquitous arcades in Japan.
In the 1980s, the young man publishes with friends a games magazine called Game Freak. In April 1989, what was just a magazine became a video game development studio. When Satoshi Tajiri discovered the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991, he instantly imagined insects crawling along the “Cables Link” and changing owners. Combining his passion for insects and video games, Satoshi Tajiri invented the Pokémon universe. The rest is legend.
Machida pays tribute to pocket monsters
Riding on the undeniable success of the franchise, the town of Machida decided to pay tribute to these illustrious creatures. Thus, the park of Serigaya has renewed its manhole covers to display different creatures from the Pokémon universe. It is not uncommon to come across a Charmander, a Bulbasaur or a Rattata and a Pidgey in the park. It is not, however, a matter of catching them all.
Pokémon has generated more than $100 billion in sales since its debut in 1996. It is the most lucrative saga in history.
Machida
Located in the western part of Tokyo metropolis, Machida is a city of 428,850 inhabitants.
Between 1960 and 1970, Machida City experienced a population explosion, from 71,000 to 202,499. This significant growth is partly due to the development of Tama New Town.
Known mainly as a dormitory community for Tokyo and Yokohama, Machida has several sites of interest such as Tadao Park, the Buaisō Museum and the Museum of Graphic Arts.
