Paisley Park
“Admission is easy, Just say U Believe, And come 2 this place in your heart” the song by Prince Paisley Park sounds like a motto. For a long time, the musician looked for a place where he would be free to create without constraint. Then in 1986, strong of its success thanks to the album Purple Rain,
he decides to finance the project himself. In partnership with Warner Bros, he also founded the Paisley Park Records label, allowing him to acquire total autonomy over his projects. Almost total in reality because the investors of Warner weigh on the company of the Kid from Minneapolis. It is in 1993 that he frees himself from all his chains by creating a new label in replacement, NPG Records.
This is how Prince was able to record albums such as Sign o’ the Times, which became a worldwide reference, but also Lovesexy, Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls or Love Symbol.
Prince’s dream had come true. Everyone was so free that, due to the success of the studios, their owners were sometimes forced to record some of their songs elsewhere.
More than 8,000 recordings were stored in Prince’s famous armored room, The Vault.
Paisley Park
Built between 1986 and 1987 by Prince, the Paisley Park studios were home to the label of the same name which produced many artists.
Sheila E., George Clinton, Jill Jones or Carmen Electra, all of them could enjoy these studios. Designed by the architectural firm Boto Design Inc, of Santa Monica, California, Paisley Park contains numerous recording, concert and rehearsal rooms as well as film studios and costume workshops spread over more than 6,000 m2. Since Prince’s death on April 21, 2016, the building has become a museum dedicated to the Minneapolis Kid.
