Jurassic World begins shooting on April 10, 2014 in Hawaii. With a comfortable budget of $150 million, director Colin Trevorrow is happy to use the same sites as Steven Spielberg in Jurassic Park. He settled at Kualoa Ranch on the east coast of Oahu. Several sets are built on this private property. The place, already known to fans of the franchise, also allows the production to make the link with Jurassic Park, by using old cars in the colors of the first park.
It is at Kualoa Ranch that the bungalow of Owen Grady, Chris Pratt’s character, is built, as well as the indominus rex enclosure, the heliport and the meadow where the children move around inside a gyrosphere. Prairie where Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joseph Mazzello) were chased by galliminus in Jurassic Park.
Jurassic World earned $1,671,713,208 at the worldwide box office.
Kualoa Ranch
A 1,600 hectare nature reserve, the Kualoa Ranch is one of the major tourist attractions on the island of O’ahu.
Located on an ancient sacred site, the Kualoa Ranch has its origins in 1850 when Gerritt P. Judd, an American doctor, acquired a plot of land. King Kamehameha III maintains a friendly relationship with this man thanks to which he can have access to medical journals. Over the years, the ranch grew and devoted itself in particular to the cultivation of sugar cane. Occupied by the American army during the Second World War, it is now open to filming and to the public. Jurassic Park, Godzilla and even the series Lost were filmed there.
