Owen and Claire's cabin
The woods of Surrey in England had already hosted the shooting of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where the decorators had built a first version of the cabin of Owen, the character played by Chris Pratt. Logically, the director Colin Trevorrow has chosen the same location for Jurassic World Dominion. A forest, this time covered with snow, as the starting point of an adventure populated by dinosaurs.
In the script, Owen and Claire’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) cabin is located near a small town and a sawmill. However, the mill in question is actually the one in Merritt, British Columbia. A clever collage that allowed Colin Trevorrow to create a very credible environment. It is also here that he chose to house Blue, the velociraptor tamed by Owen Grady.
Blue was a real challenge for the technicians at Industrial Light and Magic. As with the previous installments, the creature required a mix of several techniques, namely pure CGI, animatronics and performance capture. The sequences in which the raptor rubs shoulders with Chris Pratt, for example, encouraged ILM’s craftsmen to use an actor wearing a suit equipped with motion sensors. This way, Chris Pratt could interact with a real actor and not pretend to be in front of a dinosaur.
Jurassic World Dominion has two new dinosaurs, the moros intrepidus and the deadnoughtus. These two species, both real, have been discovered since the release of the previous part of the franchise.
Winterfold Forest
This forest west of Greensand Ridge is one of the finest in Surrey, England. It adjoins the wooded area of Hurtwood.
Criss-crossed by several streams, dotted with hamlets, the Winterfold Forest is mainly made up of pines and ferns. This is also home to Pitch Hill and The Warren, Surrey’s two highest points. The latter measure respectively 257 and 251 meters. The area has been used since the late 1990s as a film location by many Hollywood studios.
