In Les demoiselles de Rochefort, Michel Piccoli had taken on the costume of Simon Dame, the music store manager. In one scene, Solange Garnier (Françoise Dorléac) enters this store to buy sheet music.
The man then tells him his life story. He met a beautiful young woman to whom he was engaged ten years ago. But she left him to settle in Mexico. He refused her marriage proposal because she refused the name of Madame Dame. Simon opened this store a month ago to rekindle his memories with this unknown woman. He is subjugated by the beauty of Solange.
At present, Monsieur Dame’s store is located on the site of a covered market, Bourse du Commerce. In the 19th century, Mr. Rivalland opened a store in the place where the scenes of the feature film will be shot.
Agnès Varda, director and companion of Jacques Demy, made a documentary in 1992 entitled Les demoiselles ont eu 25 ans.
Avenue Charles de Gaulle
The avenue Charles-de-Gaulle is a commercial artery of Rochefort-sur-Mer.
Parallel to the avenue La Fayette, the avenue Charles-de-Gaulle is located not far from the river Charente, the national museum of the navy, the workshops of the Hermione and the congress center.
It is also home to the Musée Hèbre, which houses the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire and the Heritage Department, which is responsible for implementing the City of Art and History label.
