“St. Cyril’s, where we used to hide from the Germans. Only Kristatos would make an abandoned monastery his personal retreat.”

Milos Columbo (Chaim Topol)

With the help of Milos Columbo, Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet) and three men, James Bond (Roger Moore) goes to the monastery of St. Cyril to find Kristatos and retrieve the ATAC, the top secret missile launching system stolen from the St. George.

The secret agent, wishing to take the criminals by surprise, climbs the high mountain not without difficulty. Upstairs, with the assistance of his cronies, 007 lays siege to the compound and manages to recover the ATAC while Milos kills Kristatos (Julian Glover).

At the same time, Russian General Anatol Alexis Gogol (Walter Gotell) attempts to take ATAC by force from Bond. In one motion, the British spy throws the aircraft from the top of the hill and it comes crashing down. The general left empty-handed, with no apparent grudge.

This incredible monastery is not actually called St. Cyril, but Aghia Triada. The monks were not very enthusiastic to see the cameras arrive, even going so far as to hang up signs and prevent certain shots from being taken.

Holy Trinity Monastery at Meteora

The Holy Trinity Monastery is one of the monasteries of Meteora, the rock formations located in Greece, in the valley of Peneus, in Thessaly.

Among all the other monasteries, this one is the oldest. Its construction began in 1476. According to a manuscript kept in the archives of the monastery, a place of worship has been present at this location since at least 1362.

Previously richly furnished and decorated, the site was looted during the Second World War. It is one of six monasteries still in operation today.
