Maternity
If all the sequences in the present were filmed in a maternity hospital in Martigues, filmmaker Marion Laine preferred to play on authenticity and set her cameras at the Pernelle Aufrédy maternity hospital to capture the scene where Jeanne, the character played by Sandrine Bonnaire, while still a young girl with dreams of glory with her band, gives birth to her daughter Zoë. The mother having decided to give birth under X before changing her mind after meeting her child.
About all the maternity scenes, Marion Laine had a very precise idea in mind, as she explained in the columns of the website Allociné at the time of the release of the film: “I wanted to externalize through light the inner beauty of all these women. And babies. For Jeanne’s apartment, I wanted chiaroscuro. I didn’t want us to feel comfortable in her house. She doesn’t see the light, she leaves, it’s dark, she comes home, it’s dark…or the day is coming up, but she needs to sleep and she draws the curtains. She did not move in.“
