This is not the first time the historic city of Las Vegas, New Mexico has played a role in film or television. Widely exploited by Hollywood, she found herself projected in the middle of Wyoming, near the Grand Teton, for the needs of the plot of the series Outer Range.
Showrunner Barry Watkins chose this part of Las Vegas because of its very authentic character. The city is known for its historic buildings dating back to the Gold Rush era and the mythical West. He explained in the columns of Entertainment Weekly magazine about his motivations for his creation: “For me, the West is this wonderful yet dangerous place. It’s the kind of place where you can stand in front of a mountain range or a forest and feel like you’re looking at another world. That’s where the story of the rancher who finds a metaphysical void on his property comes from. This mysterious hole that will end up revealing its own inner voids. I hope that the series captures the essence of what I wanted to express in the letter I wrote to Josh Brolin introducing him to the series, which is what happens when a disenchanted world telescopes with an enchanted element?“
Outer Range marks Josh Brolin’s return to television 17 years after Into the West, the mini-series produced by Steven Spielberg.
