“I know that with time, you’re supposed to get used to it, but I can’t do it anymore. I played Marilyn Monroe, I can’t stand one more scene as Marilyn Monroe.”

Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas)

In order to give his story the necessary amplitude and authentic patina, director Andrew Dominik tried to shoot in real locations, while exploiting various studios, such as Warner Studios in Burbank. Unchanged since its opening with its French Baroque architecture, the Los Angeles Theatre is one of the city’s historic landmarks. Remarkably preserved, always put to use by a film industry eager to appropriate a little of its greatness, this exceptional cinema is one of the most remarkable filming locations in Blonde.

Hollywood Success Story

In the same way that Quentin Tarantino with Once Upon A Time… In HollywoodAndrew Dominik has thus directly exploited the cultural heritage of Los Angeles to offer a convincing backdrop to his film, encouraging a certain immersion. What gives Ana de Armas, the interpreter of Marilyn Monroe, the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the real star of Men Prefer Blondes, through scenes shot in Los Angeles but located between the East Coast and the West Coast. The famous sequence of Seven Years of Thinking, when Marilyn Monroe passes over the subway vent, for example, was produced in the comfort of the studios, allowing Andrew Domink to set up striking staging effects.

Los Angeles Theatre

More than a cinema, the Los Angeles Theater is a true historical monument of the city of angels.

With a capacity of 2,000 seats, this cinema was built in 1931 by HL Gumbiner, a personality in the Chicago entertainment industry. With its architecture inspired by the French Baroque movement, it has an interior modeled on the Hall of Mirrors of the Palace of Versailles. Wishing to premiere his film City Lights there, Charlie Chaplin helped finance the work so that the cinema was completed on time. The Los Angeles Theater has often been used as a filming location for films like New York, New York and Charlie’s Angels. He also features in the music videos for Taylor Swift’s Delicate and Aerosmith’s Jaded.
