Lockwood & Co.
The first series created by Joe Cornish, a British writer-director known for his film Attack the Block and for his participation in the screenplay of Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn, Lockwood & Co. was filmed exclusively in London, in a studio, but also in real locations. Thus, the showrunner has set his sights on a beautiful Grade II listed house to house the Lockwood & Co. agency.
A supernatural house
The house is visible when Lucy Carlyle (Ruby Stokes), the young heroine at the center of the story of the series. It appears thereafter on numerous occasions, throughout the peregrinations of the characters. And while the facade did not require any special modifications to meet Lockwood & Co.’s specifications, no significant footage was shot inside.
For this, Joe Cornish preferred to work from studio sets. The different floors, the rooms or the cellar in which the ghost simulators are installed for training purposes, required the greatest care from the craftsmen.
No exposure
Joe Cornish decided to break the usual rules of writing for Lockwood & Co. For this reason, the series does not have an exposition scene to explain the scenario and the context.
He explained this to Coming Soon, comparing his series to certain video games: “Do you remember bad video games that would give you an hour’s tutorial before you could actually get onto the first level? That’s what I don’t like. The video games I loved, you were just straight in there with the character and as the first level unfolded, you started to learn which button did which thing as the game unfolded. Like with The Legend of Zelda or one of the Mario games, like a really good Nintendo game that was really intuitive and organic. So we wanted to make the first episode like that, where before you knew it, you were just part of the story and you picked up the rules through the drama unfolding rather than through any laborious exposition.“
Lockwood & Co. sees the debut of young British actor Cameron Chapman, here as Anthony Lockwood.
33 Claremont Square
This attractive corner house is part of a Grade II listed complex. It is located very close to King’s Cross station and Claremont Square.
Comprising two floors and an attic space, the house at 33 Claremont Square features an architectural style typical of central London. Bordering the reservoir hidden under the hillock of Claremont Square, this beautiful cozy residence was built between 1815 and 1828 and is considered, like its neighbours, to be a true historical monument.
