“- And would send them to die in a happy city… That’s it.

– Is it over?

– We will have read The Plague in ten days. Here, I give it to you.

– Ah no no no

– This time, keep it. If I insist.”

Margueritte (Gisèle Casadesus) and Germain (Gérard Depardieu)

Recently, Germain met Magueritte, a passionate reader. Every day, the tall 45-year-old sits next to the old lady to listen to her read excerpts from novels, including The Plague by Albert Camus.

This magic of books, he continued it by going to borrow a “simple to read” book at the library. These places had been opened shortly before, in the old medieval city halfway between Saintes and Jonzac.

For the needs of the film, many Pontois were chosen to be extras. Other places in this beautiful city of New Aquitaine were used as settings for Jean Becker’s feature film: the public garden, the town hall, the Bron school or the fishermen’s house located at the foot of the ramparts.
