“A war is coming. I’m afraid your friends in Hawkins are very much in the eye of the storm.”

Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser)

New Mexico, and more specifically the city of Albuquerque, has become a favorite filming region since the overwhelming success of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Stranger Things uses the locations in turn. Here, Albuquerque becomes Lenora Hills, the town in which the Byers and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) moved after defeating the Mind Flayer at the end of the previous act. As in Atlanta, where the production took over a real high school and turned it into Hawkins High School, Lenora Hills High School is also authentic and is actually called Eldorado High School. The only difference is that this one, unlike the Atlanta school, is still in operation. The team had to shoot the few introductory sequences of the fourth season outside of class.

The Covid-19 pandemic has heavily impacted the filming of Stranger Things. It is on March 16, 2020 that everything stops for several weeks. On September 28, 2020, it’s all hands on deck again. Many of the old filming locations in the Atlanta area are once again used, such as the video store, the Palace, the arcade, the library and the homes of the various characters. A season 4 in which Hawkins also reveals new locations.

Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer directed five episodes of Season 4 themselves.

Eldorado High School

One of the most prestigious high schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eldorado High School is also a well-known filming location.

With a demanding and comprehensive curriculum and a wealth of extracurricular activities for its students, Eldorado High School is one of the best known in the Albuquerque area. Adopting an eagle as its mascot, it is particularly popular for its athletics team. It is located in the Eldorado Heights neighborhood in the east of the city, not far from Hoover Middle School. It was used in the filming of the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Stranger Things - Zombie Boys T01 (French Edition)

1983. Spring has sprung in the (almost) peaceful town of Hawkins. Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Will are trying to recover from their traumatic encounter with the Demogorgon. The Upside Down World continues to haunt them and tensions arise between the four boys: their group is on the verge of breaking up. Just then, Joey Kim, a new student, comes knocking on the AV club’s door with a camcorder in his hand and ideas in his head. This Spielberg apprentice wants to make a zombie movie based on Will’s drawings, and offers to act in it. This project will undoubtedly be an opportunity for the young actors to strengthen their ties and overcome the horrors they have experienced.
Following the events of the first season of the Netflix phenomenon series, this new story will delight fans of all ages!
