Love, sex, religion, money, drugs and disease are the themes at the heart of the Elite series. The Spanish show is set in a private high school for children from wealthy families. A school where the murder of a student puts all the students in turmoil.
Las Encinas High School, chic, select and plush
Samuel (Itzan Escamilla), Nadia (Mina El Hammani) and Christian (Miguel Herrán) arrive at the posh and exclusive high school in Las Encinas. These three working class students have had to continue their education since their former school, San Sebastian, collapsed.
The company responsible for the tragedy decides to offer a scholarship to Nadia, Samuel and Christian in order to clear itself of the destruction of the school.
Between drama and passion
But in their first year, the trio is swept up in the whirlwind of a sordid affair. Marina (Maria Pedraza) is murdered. All the teenagers are questioned by the police. It is through this narrative pattern that we discover the connections between the students that lead to the murder of one of the most popular girls in the school.
The series navigates between the thriller with the murder of Marina and the teen movie with the stories between the students. At El Encinas High School, all contemporary and societal topics are covered.
Las Encinas High School to University
The Elite cast did not film at Las Encinas High School, however. The teams of designers Dario Madrona and Carlos Montero have chosen the European University of Madrid for the exteriors of the institution. This Spanish campus is located 24 km west of the capital.
Jaime Lorente, Miguel Herran and Maria Pedraza are not unknown actors and actresses to the public when they play in the series. They had previously played roles in La casa de papelthe other great Spanish show on Netflix.
As of 2019, Elite had recorded 20,000,000 views on the Netflix platform.
