King's Landing Square
Widely used, along with Girona, to create King’s Landing in Game of Thrones, Dubrovnik was also used in House of the Dragon, but to a lesser extent. For the scenes of the pilot episode taking place inside the city, the producers have moved to Spain and in particular to Trujillo. Director Miguel Sapochnik filmed the arrival of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) at the Red Keep at the Plaza Major. For the occasion, several arrangements were made. The statue of Francisco Pizarro, for example, has been digitally erased to make room for the representation of a dragon with folded wings. The buildings, as for them, have been dressed but remain recognizable.
Chosen for its mix of Roman, Islamic, Gothic, Italian and Renaissance influences, the city shares the screen with Cáceres, another historic Spanish city where several sequences were also filmed.
The music of House of the Dragon is composed by Ramin Djawadi, already working on Game of Thrones.
Plaza Mayor de Trujillo
Located in downtown Trujillo, this square is the place for all gatherings. It includes several historical monuments.
Particularly recognizable by its stairs and its equestrian sculpture by Francisco Pizarro, this square also includes historical sites such as the Palace of the Conquest, the San Martin church, the old town hall, the Palace of Juan Pizarro de Orellana, the Quintanilla Palace, the Palace of Caves and Sotomayor or even the House of the chain. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1962.
