Khao Phing Kan

Movie Uncharted Ruben Fleischer (2022)
Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) has finally managed to find the two galleons of Magellan's expedition. Boats full of gold, hidden in the jungle of Khao Phing Kan. Even if in the background, the scene only exploited overviews of this spectacular region.

– Are you still with me?

I do what I can!

Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) and Nathan Drake (Tom Holland)

If on screen the illusion is perfect, no actor of Uncharted has really set foot on Khao Phing Kan, the famous James Bond Island. The production simply sent a team to film the magnificent landscapes and in particular the small islands dotting the bay, to orchestrate the final sequence of the film. For the most part, the technicians have settled not far from Barcelona, in Lloret del Mar, in the cove of Sa Boadella. This location, known to resemble Thailand, offered everything the production was looking for, saving them a trip halfway around the world. If many scenes take place in Barcelona, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg only had to travel a few kilometers to shoot the close-up shots, before heading to the Berlin studios to shoot the sequences located in the cave where the galleons are found.

Pirate coin pendant

Become Nathan Drake with this pirate coin from the UNCHARTED universe. Its pendant format is perfect for a decoration or for a jewel.

The conclusion of Uncharted is thus the result of a clever collage. Clearly visible on the screen, Khao Phing Kan and the whole of Phang-Nga Bay merged with the beaches of the Costa Brava, well helped by elaborate digital effects. As for this amazing chase between two boats lifted by helicopters, above the rock formations of Phang-Nga, it was made possible thanks to the unavoidable green backgrounds.

Khao Phing Kan

Meaning “hills leaning over each other” in Thai, Khao Phing Kan is a group of islands particularly popular with tourists.

The islands are very recognizable thanks to Ko Tapu, which can be translated as “point island”; this 20-meter high rock located in the middle of the archipelago.

Made famous by the film The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974, tourism then developed on Khao Phing Kan until then rarely explored. The fauna and flora are particularly affected because of the household waste generated by careless visitors.

Since 1998, it has been forbidden for tourists to approach Ko Tapu by boat, in order to slow down the erosion of the rock.
