“- I’m Mr. Kil.
– Well, there’s a name to die for.”

Mr Kil (Lawrence Makoare) and James Bond (Pierce Brosnan)

In A View to a Kill, James Bond (Roger Moore) is on a mission in Siberia. It is notably during this adventure that he discovers a chip belonging to the industrialist Max Zorin on the lifeless body of Agent 003. This discovery leads James Bond to investigate the man played on screen by Christopher Walken.

In reality, these scenes were not shot in Siberia, but near the Jökulsárlón lake in Iceland.

In Die Another Day, it’s a completely different setting. The destination is clearly stated, Iceland is where James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is going for a show of force by Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens).

The rich industrialist launches his Icarus satellite and shows its potential near this lake. It is also the place of an incredible chase on the glacier between agent 007 and Zao (Rick Yune), and where Gustav Graves’ ice palace is held, a kind of hotel – convention place for the presentation of Icarus.

To support the chase between James Bond and Zao in Die Another Day, the structure of the ice palace was reinforced with 98 km of steel tubes.

Jökulsárlón

Jökulsárlón is the best known and largest of Iceland’s proglacial lakes and means “glacier lagoon” in English.

Appeared between 1934 and 1935, its surface is about 18 km2.

Since 2009, this lake is considered the deepest lake in Iceland with a maximum depth of 284 meters.

Very popular with tourists, it is estimated that about 60,000 to 70,000 people have taken a cruise on one of the many amphibious boats of the company Jökulsárlón EHF.
