Iron Bank
Already installed in Dubrovnik to shoot scenes taking place in King’s Landing, the production of Game of Thrones moves along the coast, a little further north, to film the meeting of Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) and banker Tycho Nestoris (Mark Gatiss), in front of the Iron Bank. A central establishment in the story that takes on the appearance of the Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Like other historical monuments before it, the cathedral was chosen because of its excellent state of preservation but also because of its architecture. This one corresponds to the dominant style of the city of Braavos in which the Iron Bank is located. However, it only hosted the outdoor scenes.
The Iron Bank appears in seasons 4, 5 and 7.
Katedrala sv. Jakov
Begun in 1431 and completed in 1536, this Gothic-Renaissance cathedral is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
First entrusted to several Venetian masters, the construction of the Saint-Jacques cathedral in Šibenik was then taken over by George the Dalmatian. He modified the original plan to adopt a transitional style between Gothic and Renaissance. The cathedral was later completed by Nikola Firentinac. The latter took care of the dome and the elements of the facade, fully embracing the Renaissance style. The cathedral was built exclusively with materials from the Croatian islands.
