Hotel-restaurant Le Clocher
Serge Tanneur (Fabrice Luchini) does not reject the project of a theatrical adaptation of The Misanthrope by his friend Gauthier Valence (Lambert Wilson). To convince him to go back on stage, Gauthier decides to stay on the island.
Still not having found a house, he went to the hotel-restaurant Le Clocher, in Ars-en-Ré, to stay there while he found his future home. He meets the manager, Mrs. Bichet (Edith Le Merdy) and Zoé (Laurie Bordesoules), a young X-actress to whom he will give a try.
The character of Serge Tanneur is greatly inspired by his interpreter Fabrice Luchini. On the other hand, Gauthier Valence’s, is very inspired by Philippe Le Guay, the director: “Lambert Wilson is my representative on screen!”
Only scene 1 of Act 1 of the Misanthrope is filmed. Scene presenting the two main characters, Philinte and Alceste.
Hôtel Restaurant Le Clocher
Le Clocher is a hotel-restaurant located in the center of Ars-en-Ré, in the heart of the île de Ré.

The establishment is named after the Saint-Etienne church located opposite. It has the particularity to have its bell tower painted in black and white. Colors not having for goal the esthetics, but being used as bitter to the sailors at sea.
