“- We’ll also need a company of first-rate men. Do you have any commandos here?

– I have much, much better. Ninjas. Top secret Bond-san. This is my ninja training school.”

James Bond and Tiger Tanaka (Tetsurō Tanba)

And for this, James goes to Tiger Tanaka, the head of the Japanese secret service. He asks him for an army, first-rate men, to intervene at the SPECTRE’s lair.

Tiger will reveal to him the existence of ninjas and proposes to 007 to follow their teaching. At Himeji Castle, Tiger shows the British agent the different training areas for these elite soldiers.

James Bond will have to transform himself into a Japanese, marry a woman and learn to become a ninja among them.

Himeji Castle

Designed in the 14th century, Himeji Castle, one of the last twelve feudal castles in Japan, is an architectural gem.

Built entirely of wood, the 83 buildings have many special features. The defense systems were very sophisticated while keeping a particular aestheticism.

Also nicknamed the “white heron” because of its color, the tiles used are black and yet they appear white. This is due to the use of white waterproof joints covering part of the roof.

Another peculiarity is that the keep of Himeji Castle rests on two main pillars that are 24 m high and can support up to 100 tons each. During the renovation work, the trunks used for the pillars were very difficult to find.

When this was the case, one of them cracked during transportation. It was nevertheless installed and reinforced with a metal frame.
