“Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.”

Rarely, while most of the time, in cinema or television, only the facades of real buildings are used for the shootings, the interior sets being built in studios, the interior and exterior scenes were indeed filmed in the old town hall of Douglasville, in the state of Georgia.

Available and vacant at the beginning of the production, the room allows the teams of decorators to completely transform it. The latter put a sign on the façade and proceed to the fitting out of the old offices. For a long time, between filmings, silhouettes of Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and other characters were placed in front of the building in order to exploit it for tourist purposes. Fans of Stranger Things were numerous to visit the site to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of their favorite series.

Extremely rich in various references to pop culture and especially to movies from the 1970s and 1980s, Stranger Things is full of easter eggs. The police station and its residents are no exception. For example, the uniforms and patches are a direct reference to the Amity Island police force in Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece Jaws.

Stranger Things includes two references to John McTiernan’s Predator: Jim Hopper’s name refers to the name of the character Arnold Schwarzenegger is looking for, while the Predator’s first victim is named Hawkins, like the town in Stranger Things.

This building once housed the town hall of Douglasville. It is mainly popular for having been transformed into a police station in the Stranger Things series.

A small town of 33,252 inhabitants, Douglasville can be proud of a town center listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site is also known to have been the scene of the worst flooding in Georgia. The 8485 Courthouse Square, where the town hall was located, is today in full rehabilitation after being used as part of the filming of the Stranger Things series. This is where the police station was located. Douglasville has also been used as a setting for films like The Founder and Hunger Games.
