While Matt and Ross Duffer, the two creators and showrunners of Stranger Things , have at times exploited the interiors and exteriors of locations in and around Atlanta, the library in Hawkins, the show’s fictional town, combines two distinct locations. While the interior scenes were shot in the Old East Point Library in East Point, the façade visible on the screen is that of the Butts County Probate Court, the courthouse of the city of Jackson.
The Demogorgon, the big bad of the first season of Stranger Things, is directly from the game Dungeons & Dragons, which the heroes play at the beginning of the plot. A creature recognized by experts as the most powerful antagonist of the first edition of the mythical role-playing game. The Demogorgon is undoubtedly partly responsible for the great success of Stranger Things. The latter was watched by 64 million households.
Season 1 of Stranger Things includes 10 references to movies released in the 1980s such as E.T.and Poltergeist.
Butts County Probate Court
This beautiful building in typical Georgian architectural style houses the Jackson City Courthouse.
The Butts County Probate Court is one of the main landmarks of Jackson, this city of 3,934 inhabitants. Founded in 1826, Jackson remains famous today for having served as the backdrop for the series Stranger Things but also for The CW’s The Originals. It takes its name from Governor James Jackson.
