Junichi Masuda, master of the Pokémon saga, has decided to focus on France for the X and Y versions of the famous video games. No city is an exception to the rule, and even less Geosenge Town.

“Geosenge Town. Quiet stones speak volumes.”

Information sign on route 10

Geosenge Town is the city of stones. All along the road leading to this city, and all around it, are strange rock formations. Lined up menhirs, piled up rocks and a certain heap hiding a secret entrance. But the decision to create such a city was not simply born in the mind of Junichi Masuda.

France becomes Kalos

For the development of the Kalos region, the cradle of the Pokémon X and Y story, the former CEO of Game Freak wanted to rely on one of the most visited countries in the world, closely linked to fashion and aesthetics: France. Fascinated by the country, which is also the first country in Europe to consume manga and anime, Junichi Masuda decided to take his team to the country in 2011 to get inspired by the places and the atmosphere of the country.

Geosenge Town inspired by Carnac

While Paris is of course important in the game, Junichi did not focus solely on the capital. Other places in France have caught his attention, especially the site of Carnac in Brittany. “Carnac is a place that I already knew about and that always intrigued me. On Wikipedia in Japanese, there was no information. So, during a preparatory trip of 15 days, I told the team that I absolutely wanted to go there to learn more,” Junichi tells the weekly magazine Le Point. On the spot, Junichi can satisfy his curiosity by asking many questions to a guide.

Two birds with one stone

“I really loved this place, because no one really knows why it’s there. It was so amazing that I wanted it to be in the game,” says the game’s producer/developer/designer. The name of the city was inspired by the words “geo, ginseng, Stonehenge and town” . A trip to remember.

Alignements de Carnac

Not everything has an explanation. This is the case for the Alignements de Carnac, an exceptional and mysterious megalithic formation.

Erected around 4500 BC, more than 4000 stones are raised and form this strange alignment. It is very likely that the site has sheltered many more rocks, which have been developed by our ancestors and used with impunity in this curious reserve.

Since 1889, the menhirs of Alignements de Carnac have been protected as historical monuments and since 1996 they have been included on the UNESCO tentative list in view of a candidacy for World Heritage listing.

Today, scientists are still wondering about this incredible site. Prehistoric temple, seismic instruments, map of the stars, the hypotheses go well. A mystery to put in the right way.
