James Bond, after annoying businessman Auric Goldfinger, travels to Switzerland to follow him and find out what his plans are.
On the mountain roads of Switzerland, at the Furka Pass, James quietly follows the Rolls-Royce Phantom III when a Ford Mustang honks at him several times. On board, Tilly Masterson (Tania Mallet) is also trying to catch up with the industrialist.
During a short stop, Tilly, to avenge her sister Jill, tries to kill Auric Goldfinger but misses her shot and fails to hit Bond. He then chased her and caused an accident with one of the accessories of his Aston Martin DB5. The first contact between them therefore takes place at the bottom of the pass.
Auric Goldfinger’s license plate is AU1. Apart from the fact that “AU” is the first two letters of his first name, it is also the chemical symbol for gold.
Furka Pass
Opened by road in 1867, the Furka Pass culminates at 2,429 m above sea level.
It is the fourth highest road pass in Switzerland and connects the Rhone valley with Andermatt.
Fans of the Tour de Suisse can see it regularly crossed by the riders.
