Good morning, Hank. I’m midway through the G’s. Hey, who’s the girl in? Never mind. Hey, I’ll see you in the morning.

Robert Neville (Will Smith)

Every day, Robert (Will Smith) goes to a DVD rental store with Sam. Armed with his rifle, he opens the locked door, but not without saying hello to the two mannequins on the sidewalk.

He greets those in the shop and then returns the DVD borrowed the previous day to its place. He then chooses a new one and walks over to the dummy acting as cashier.

This is one of the only times during the day when he tries to socialize with other people. Apart from Sam, his dog, he only talks to the plastic figures in this DVD rental store.

He himself set up these fictional characters to bring some semblance of life to the shop.

1970

Warner Bros has held the rights to the book of the same name written by Richard Matheson since the 1970s.

Some of the models in the shop were played by real actors. If you look closely at the scene, you can see them moving.
