All interior sets for Outer Ranch were made at I-25 Studios in Albuquerque. This is where the interiors of the Handsome Gambler, the Abbott brothers’ bar of choice, were designed. The ranches of the two rival families were also fashioned by the production team’s craftsmen on a parcel of land near the studios, again in the Albuquerque area. The Grand Teton Mountains, Wyoming’s most famous, were added in post-production to create the perfect illusion. The design of the Abbotts’ ranch was largely inspired by the T.A. Moulton Barn in the famous Mormon Row Historic District.
Eager to play in the series, Josh Brolin explained his motivations toEntertainment Weekly: “I grew up on a ranch and loved reading Ray Bradbury novels. I have read The Martian Chronicles when I was 8 years old and then I went on to read many others, including Fahrenheit 451. These books had a great effect on me. I was living on a ranch and all of a sudden I discovered something I had never imagined.” Barry Watkins managed to convince Josh Brolin after writing him a letter to present his project.
Although the action is located there, no scenes were shot in the state of Wyoming.
Odessa's
A small café typical of the region, Odessa’s serves both hot drinks and pastries.
Located on the edge of the desert, east of downtown Las Vegas, New Mexico, Odessa’s is next to a video game store. If the notoriety of Las Vegas is less than that of the city of the same name in Nevada, it remains nevertheless very popular. Many outlaws and other western legends have stopped there, like Billy The Kid, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, but also Jesse James.
