Diner
While the Dexter: New Blood team did shoot many interior scenes in the studio, they also used multiple authentic locations in the state of Massachusetts. The Whately Diner then became the on-screen diner of Kurt Caldwell’s (Clancy Brown) character, one of the key locations in the plot of the miniseries.
Typical diner
Located near a gas station also seen in Dexter: New Blood, the Whately Diner hosts many scenes. From the very first episode, he becomes the nerve center of Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) return and comes back regularly throughout the ten episodes of the one and only season.
A surprising ending
The end of the Dexter series has raised many criticisms. Clyde Phillips, the showrunner, had to rectify the situation in order to offer Dexter: New Blood a conclusion capable of making the fans forget the one of Dexter. The producer had confided to TVline magazine before the airing of the tenth and final episode of the mini-series: “The end going to be surprising, inevitable and it’s going to blow up the Internet. It is, I personally think, the best thing I’ve written. Our director Marcos Siega, who could not be more experienced and a better friend of the show, thinks it’s the best thing he’s ever directed. I haven’t seen it yet, by the way. I only saw it get shot.“
Dexter: New Blood is the 29th series in which Clancy Brown plays.
Whately Diner
Located in Whately, a small town south of Springfield, in the State of Massachusetts, this diner also serves as a gas station.
With its architecture typical of 1950s diners, the Whately maintains a certain American way of life. Along the highway, on the edge of the Great Swamp Wildlife Management Area, it is a must for all travelers but also remains very popular with locals. Built in 1958, it adopts the American princess architectural style. It was previously located in Chicopee but was moved to its current location in the early 1970s.
