Crossroads of N Spring Street & Wilhardt Street
The scene orchestrated at the intersection of N Spring Street & Wilhardt Street, during the last quarter of the film, is one of the most spectacular. It is here that a decoy ambulance explodes in the middle of several police cars before a low rider comes to machine gun the survivors in a deluge of fire. Not really a fan of green backgrounds and other digital images, Michael Bay insists on playing the realism card from the start. This scene, crucial, is thus produced since a true crossing.
To make things possible and to secure the plateau as much as possible, the team seals off the entire area. The operation is made easier because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The streets are almost all deserted and anyway, Michael Bay is not known to linger. With the whole sequence in mind, he gives the green light for the explosions and for the shootout and manages to make all the elements fit together with remarkable fluidity. Filmed in an area known for its tags, far from downtown and its buildings, where the action ofAmbulance begins, the neighborhood will long remember this day when the most lit of American directors multiplied the detonations in the middle of the street.
The project for the remake of the Danish film Ambulance, by Laurits Munch-Petersen, was set in motion in 2015. It is then question that Philip Noyce directs it. It is only in 2020 that Ambulance is revived, with the arrival of Michael Bay as director. The latter being driven by the desire to organize the meeting of Speed and Bad Boys. He is also keen to shoot in Los Angeles.
The shooting ofAmbulance lasted only two months.
