Crevasse de Colosse
Fans of the video game The Last of Us were eager to meet Colossus, one of the most iconic monsters. An infected person who has benefited from an extraordinary physical development can be seen crawling out of a crevice under a house. An important scene that the teams of showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have choreographed with great care.
A meticulous staging
The entire team moved to 11 Northwest Avenue, in the heart of Rosedale, a residential area of Calgary. Even so, the production had to build many sets to bring the scenery for this crucial sequence to life, as producer-designer John Paino explained, “Craig Mazin told everyone right away that the theater for this scene was to be built (…). All the elements had to fit together and work safely: the accident, the truck driving down the street before hitting cars, people entering the house that collapses… We discussed how we were going to do it, the logistics, the stunts, the pyrotechnics, the shots, the editing.“
An iconic monster
In The Last of Us universe, the term colossus refers to infected people who have reached stage 4 of their evolution. Resistant to knives and bullets, the specimen that will give episode 5 its climax has been the object of special care. Barrie Gower, the famous four-time Emmy Award-winning designer of prosthetic limbs for movies, already responsible for Vecna in Stranger Things and the Night King in Game of Thrones, has covered the body of Adam Basil, a 6-foot stuntman, with all kinds of prosthetic limbs. The suit the actor had to wear was as soft as it was slimy and wet. She weighed more than 40 kg. 65 prosthetists were also hired to make up all the extras for this sequence alone.
The latex suit that gave birth to Colossus weighed over 40 kg.
