Court parking lot

“If you make a deal with someone, you have to keep your promise.”
Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks)
Little does Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) know that Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), the taciturn parking lot attendant at the courthouse, is about to become one of his closest friends. If Mike Ehrmantraut can be truly close to someone. A cult character, already present in Breaking Bad, back in the spin-off Better Call Saul, that showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan chose to start in a parking booth.
As with all the other locations, the producers wanted to shoot in an authentic location, actually in Albuquerque. Thus, they chose a part of the Convention Center parking lot, transformed in the series into the parking lot of the court where the future Saul Goodman will plead every day. After all, what better way to play on screen than in a real parking lot? A place that is not as insignificant as it seems, truly unavoidable at the beginning of the series, before things get out of hand for Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut.

One of the most fan-favorite characters, Mike Ehrmantraut has made a name for himself in Better Call Saul, where his origins are revealed. Rather secret in Breaking Bad, he becomes here one of the pivots of the story, alongside Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman, Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). A broken man, whose coldness reflects a tangible distress still perceptible in the vicinity of this parking lot where the cabin in which he works still stands today.
Jonathan Banks received the Critic’s Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Better Call Saul. The same role in Breaking Bad had earned him a Saturn Award in 2013.
Civic Plaza
South of Albuquerque’s Dowtown neighborhood, this parking lot serves the Convention Center, the largest venue of its kind in the state of New Mexico.
With a capacity of just over 9,000 people, the Albuquerque Convention Center hosts numerous shows throughout the year. This is where the Albuquerque Comic-Con is held. Formerly used for sports competitions, including track and field, the complex also has 27 meeting rooms available for rent. And while the show Better Call Saul has used it, it’s the parking lot that fans know best. The latter being the scene of some of the most cult sequences of the show.
