Court House
A French and Belgian production, La Loi de Pauline was entirely shot in Angoulême and its region, in the heart of the Charente department. Zabou Breitman plays a lawyer and in this, the directors had to shoot a very important sequence inside the courthouse.
Having benefited from the full collaboration of the municipality and the region, the team of La Loi de Pauline was able to take advantage of the infrastructure. This gives the film a very realistic side, reinforced by Zabou Breitman’s performance as a young lawyer.
The court scene, one of the longest in the film, before the final twist, gives French actor Nicolas Briançon the opportunity to shine as the judge. The latter is known for having been the artistic director of the Anjou festival, from 2004 to 2019. A position to which he succeeded Francis Perrin and Jean-Claude Brialy. A theater actor and director, he has been nominated for multiple Molières and won Best Director for his work on the play The Orange Duck in 2019.
Zabou Breitman is the fifth actress to play the lead role in a TV movie of the series La Loi de… after Gérard Jugnot, Josiane Balasko, Daniel Prévost and Richard Anconina.
Angoulême Courthouse
Built in 1826 on the site of the former Jacobin convent, the Angoulême courthouse is recognizable by its imposing columns.
The courthouse project was entrusted to the architect Paul Abadie. In neo-classical style, this building dominates Place Francis Louvel. All that remains of the Jacobin convent today is the garden, now transformed into a public space on which sits a 19th century fountain. All the important cases of the region are judged here.
