Court House of Saintes
The first TV movie in the anthology La Loi de… La Loi de Simon sees Daniel Prévost take on the role of a cynical lawyer operating from the courthouse in Saintes. Having benefited from the logistical and financial support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the Charente department, the production of the TV film was able to shoot in front of and inside the courthouse. This glorious late neo-classical building, designed by Victor Fontorbe and Henri Van Cleemputte, has housed the court of assizes and has been dedicated to justice since 1859.
The shooting of Simon’s Law encouraged the production to hire many extras to make up the assembly that would attend the trial at the heart of the script. The extras were delighted to be able to take part in a professional shoot, but also happy to work with an actor like Daniel Prévost. The latter having succeeded Josiane Balasko and Gérard Jugnot, the two main actors of the three-part mini-series La Loi de Barbara and La Loi d’Alexandre.

The Courthouse of Saintes
Built between 1859 and 1863 by architects Victor Fontorbe and Henri Van Cleemputte, the Saintes courthouse also serves as a historical monument.
Remarkable thanks to its clean lines and imposing columns, the courthouse owes its existence to the fact that it houses the Assize Court of the Charente department. In late neo-classical style, it sits enthroned on the former site of the Cordeliers convent. This is one of the proofs of the prestige of Saintes, where the prefecture used to be. Its facade consists of a portico with Doric columns. It communicates with the Gallia Theater through Square Foch.
