Commonwealth Stadium

Music Rock or Bust AC/DC (2014)
AC/DC has been on the road since April 10, 2015, when in late September, on the stage of the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada, singer Brian Johnson, Angus Young and the other members strive to give a monumental show under a downpour. A concert with disastrous consequences.

“It was late September 2015, right in the middle of AC/DC’s Rock or Bust World Tour, and we were playing at Commonwealth Stadium, the largest stadium in the country – Filled to the brim with over 60,000 people.”

Brian Johnson

When AC/DC took the soggy stage at Commonwealth Stadium, problems began to mount for the band. The dark clouds over the stadium are also a concern for the musicians.

Rock and roll underwater

Malcolm Young, the rhythm guitarist, brother of Angus Young and founding member, was ill and did not participate in the recording of the Rock or Bust album. Cliff Williams, the bassist, also announced his retirement. If he doesn’t show anything, Angus Young suffers from a high fever and Brian Johnson is not at his best.

The beginning of trouble

It is on the plane that things start to become worrying for the singer, as he confides in The Lives of Brian, his autobiography published by Talent Editions. It turns out that Brian Johnson has severe hearing problems. Problems brought to push him towards the exit, temporarily at least. The group had to call Axl Rose to replace him in order to finish the tour.

Back in Black

Nevertheless, thanks to his strong resilience, Brian Johnson returned to the spotlight after undergoing successful surgery. Since then, AC/DC has gone back into the studio to record PWR/UP, their sixteenth album. A record also marked by the return of Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd, who was once under legal investigation but is now free as a bird.

2.8

The album Rock or Bust has sold 2.8 million copies worldwide.

Commonwealth Stadium

Built in 1978, renovated in 2001, the Commonwealth Stadium can accommodate exactly 60,081 spectators.

Commonwealth Stadium is the second largest stadium in Canada. Home of the Edmonton Elks, it hosts many sporting elements and was notably at the center of the Commonwealth Games in 1978. David Bowie was the first musician to perform there on August 7, 1983. Genesis, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, U2, AC/DC, Bon Jovi or even Béyoncé, Metallica and the Guns N’ Roses followed suit.
