Clery Family House
Eugénie (Lou de Laâge) is the daughter of François Cléry (Cédric Kahn), a hard man who respects old customs. The family lives in Paris at the end of the 19th century. The father, firmly attached to precise and hard rules, intends to force his daughter to obey but she decides to defy his authority. He then decided to send her to the clinic of La Salpêtrière.
The filming of the Bal des folles began in Rochefort in November with exterior scenes in the rue de la République, just in front of the former branch of the Banque de France which serves as the family’s home.
The filming of the movie will have lasted two months in the sub-prefecture of Charente-Maritime, mainly known on the screen thanks to Jacques Demy’s movie, The Young Girls of Rochefort.
Le Bal des folles is Mélanie Laurent’s 6th film as a director.
16 Rue de la République
The 16 rue de la République in Rochefort was the former branch of the Banque de France.
It is in this building, next to the old Colbert school in Rochefort, that the former branch of the Banque de France is located. The branch has since moved to the Maison de l’Emploi in the Parc des Fourriers.
