Jason Reitman shot this sequence at Ng’s Café, a small establishment in Beiseker, Alberta, Canada. In reality, it is not a Chinese restaurant but a typical diner. The set designers had to make some changes to make the background believable and to integrate it with the fictional town of Summerland. A scene in which the 2021 version of Bouffe-tout, here renamed Muncher, the mythical gluttonous ghost, makes a stealthy and noticeable appearance.
While preparing the casting of his film, in collaboration with his father, here credited as executive producer, Jason Reitman invited Carrie Coon in his offices. The latter later recounted, “It was totally surreal. Jason called me and invited me to the Sony offices to read a script, without telling me what it was about. The Ecto-1 was actually parked in the parking lot but I didn’t realize it. And then I ended up saying to myself, “Oh my God, this is a movie Ghostbusters!“. The actress was one of the first, with Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace to join the cast.
Her role is similar to the one played by Sigourney Weaver in the 1984 film.
Since the end of the filming, no appearance has disturbed the town of Beiseker. The inhabitants have regained their peace and can go about their business again. As for Ng’s Café, even if it is not possible to taste the shrimps that Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon eat in their scene, the menu is always as generous. Muncher would probably have found it worthwhile!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the third installment of the saga initiated in 1984 by Ivan Reitman. And so much the worse if its scenario ignores relatively the events of the second part.
