Castle
In the film, the characters claim that the castle where the man they are looking for is hiding is located 80 km from Paris. The monument that the production was able to use, namely the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte, is actually located less than 60 km from the capital, in the department of Seine-et-Marne.
The heritage highlighted
The only “French” scene to take place outside of Paris, the sequence in the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte also allowed the production of Murder Mystery 2 to exploit an emblematic place of French heritage. Never really named, the castle does not open its doors to Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston but reveals its glorious exterior.
The actors evolve at the level of the façade, on the main esplanade but also in the moat. A scene in which the actors were of course dubbed. Small precision: in normal time, the bathing is not authorized in the moats of the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte.
Local talent put to work
Like many foreign productions filmed in France, the Murder Mystery 2 team worked in collaboration with local structures. Thus, the film mobilized two studios in the Paris region, namely Les Studios de Paris and TSF in Epinay. All of this using no less than a dozen natural settings in and around Paris. A presence has been a great advertisement for the capital and its surroundings.
The castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte has been the setting for more than 30 films since the early 1950s.
Château de Vaux le Vicomte
Built from 1656, the château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a marvel of architecture and a building full of surprises…
In 1641, Nicolas Fouquet, a young parliamentarian, acquired the estate. Twenty years later, the magnificent Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a unique masterpiece that arouses covetousness.
No sooner had its construction been completed than Nicolas Fouquet was arrested, sentenced to banishment and prison. The statesman was the victim of a plot orchestrated by Colbert and Louis XIV.
The latter puts the residence under seals, recovers all the goods such as the tapestry, the furniture or the orange trees of the garden.
Recovered by Mrs Fouquet 10 years later, she will resolve to sell the residence in 1705.
Regularly resold, then left abandoned, the place is acquired in 1875 by Alfred Sommier, an art lover. 140 years later, his direct descendants, the de Vogüé family, continue the work of their ancestor by preserving this castle in its former beauty.
