“- The house is in Brightmoor, do you see where that is?
– Really? “

Tess (Georgina Campbell) and Catherine (Kate Nichols)

If the action of Barbarian takes place exclusively in Detroit and its suburbs, with a main setting in the Brightmoor neighborhood, one of the most impacted by the economic crisis, the shooting took place mainly in Sofia, Bulgaria. The sequences take place in downtown Detroit, on Griswold Street on the other hand, have well and truly justified a trip to the automotive capital.

Detroit Horror City

Griswold Street is the scene of a single Barbarian scene. It is here that the heroine, played by Georgina Campbell, has a job interview during which her interlocutor (Kate Nichols) warns her of the dangerousness of the neighborhood where she has rented a house. The scene in question allows you to see the statue of the first governor of the state of Michigan as well as the surrounding buildings.

Fear in the basement

Very excited about the idea of turning in a horror film as original as Barbarian, actress Georgina Campbell confided her impressions to Interview Magazine: “I got sent the script by my American agent. I already actually had a job that was planned for that period of time, but he sent me the script and said, ‘Just give it a look. I think it’s going to be something really good.’ So I started reading it and was just completely blown away by it. I thought it was brilliant. It was very strange, funny, well-written, and had a very odd tone to it. Then I spoke to my agents about it and told them that I loved it, and luckily, I hadn’t got too far down the line on the other job, so I was able to switch and decided to go all in on Zach Cregger’s film. At the time, it was a scary decision. You have no idea how a project’s going to turn out, so it’s sometimes very hard to choose which projects you want to go for. I hadn’t done horror before, and I’ve always really wanted to do horror. I love horror films.

36.5

Barbarian took in $36.5 million on its first day in theaters in the United States.

1250 Griswold St

This building houses the headquarters of a cleaning company. It is located not far from the Detroit Opera House, in the city center.

This modest building is located near the Greektown Historic District, a stone’s throw from Ford Field and the Fox Theater. Opposite the building is Capitol Park, where a statue of Michigan’s first governor sits. Dog owners can also take advantage of a space dedicated to their four-legged friends not far from there.
